What is Commercial Auto Insurance?

Commercial Auto Insurance is designed to provide car insurance for businesses. For Florida businesses, commercial auto liability coverage is essential for contractors, delivery businesses, fleets, and any company that uses vehicles for work. Ovest Insurance Partners helps businesses find commercial auto insurance built around their vehicles, drivers, and contractual requirements.

What does Commercial Auto Insurance Cover?

Auto Liability

Auto liability insurance helps protect your business when a company vehicle causes bodily injury or property damage to someone else. It can help pay for legal defense, medical costs, repairs, and settlements after a covered accident.

Personal Injury Protection

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) helps pay medical expenses and certain lost wages for you and your passengers after an auto accident, regardless of who caused it. In Florida, PIP is generally required on vehicles registered in the state.

For businesses, commercial auto PIP coverage can help employees receive prompt benefits after a covered accident while supporting compliance with Florida auto insurance requirements.

Non-Owned Auto

Non-owned auto liability coverage helps protect your business when employees or owners use their personal vehicles for work-related activities, such as visiting clients, running errands, or traveling between job sites.

It can help pay for bodily injury, property damage, and legal costs if the business is held responsible after a covered accident. Non-owned auto coverage does not replace the driver’s personal auto policy, but it provides important protection for the business.

Hired Auto

Hired auto liability coverage helps protect your business when it rents, leases, hires, or borrows vehicles for work purposes. It can help pay for bodily injury, property damage, and legal defense costs if a covered accident occurs while the vehicle is being used for your business.

Hired auto coverage is valuable for businesses that occasionally rent vehicles, use short-term leased vehicles, or have employees travel for work. It does not cover vehicles your business owns.

Any Auto

Any Auto is the broadest commercial auto liability symbol. It provides liability coverage for vehicles your business owns, hires, borrows, or does not own—subject to the policy’s terms and exclusions.

This coverage can help protect businesses with changing vehicle use, employees who drive personal vehicles for work, rented vehicles, or newly acquired company vehicles. Because it is broad, “Any Auto” liability is not available or appropriate for every business.

Collision

Collision coverage helps pay to repair or replace your business vehicle after it is damaged in an accident with another vehicle or object, regardless of who is at fault. It can also apply to rollover accidents.

For Florida businesses with financed, leased, or valuable company vehicles, commercial auto collision coverage helps protect against costly repair bills and downtime after an accident.

Comprehensive

Comprehensive coverage helps pay to repair or replace your business vehicle after damage from causes other than a collision, such as theft, vandalism, fire, hail, flooding, falling objects, or animal strikes.

For Florida businesses, commercial auto comprehensive coverage can be especially important due to severe weather, theft, and storm-related damage. It helps protect financed, leased, and company-owned vehicles from unexpected losses.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage helps protect your business when a driver who causes an accident has no insurance or not enough liability coverage to pay for resulting injuries.

It can help cover bodily injury expenses for your drivers and passengers, including medical bills, lost wages, and certain related damages after a covered accident. This coverage is especially valuable in Florida, where many drivers carry limited or no bodily injury liability coverage.

Rental Reimbursement and Towing

Rental reimbursement and towing coverage helps keep your business moving after a covered vehicle loss. It can help pay for a temporary replacement vehicle while yours is being repaired, plus towing and roadside expenses such as jump-starts, flat tires, lockouts, or fuel delivery.

For Florida businesses that rely on vehicles every day, this coverage helps reduce downtime and out-of-pocket costs after an accident or breakdown.

Who Needs Commercial Auto Insurance?

Florida Commercial Auto Insurance Requirements

Florida generally requires vehicles registered in the state to carry at least $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and $10,000 in Property Damage Liability (PDL). These minimum limits may satisfy registration requirements for many business vehicles, but they are often far too low to protect a business after a serious accident. Florida Bar guidance

Requirements increase for certain commercial vehicles. Florida commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or more must carry additional combined bodily injury and property-damage liability limits, ranging from $50,000 to $300,000 based on vehicle weight. Vehicles subject to federal motor-carrier rules must meet applicable federal limits. Florida Statute §627.7415

Businesses that transport passengers for a fee, operate larger trucks, haul interstate, or work under contracts may need substantially higher limits. Ovest Insurance Partners helps Florida businesses determine the commercial auto coverage and limits their operations require.
